Tea cups and tea

I am not sure what gets into me sometimes. There will be something I like, so I get one. And then I get another… and my BFF says it only takes five of somthing to make a collection. I never intended to collect tea cups. I’m more of a coffee girl most of the time- and there are some pretty nifty coffee mugs out there- I have several. But a tea cup is so much more elegant! Plus, coffee is usually on the run- hurry, hurry, hurry and a tea cup- particularly with a biscuit- invites you to stop for a minute.

Another facet is that there are hundreds of beautiful china patterns out there. Even if you have a good set and a daily set, you still only get to pick two. Or, if you want, you can have small sets for the family holidays. But lots of china means lots of storage… and even with the holiday sets, you can hardly have more than five or six (I will not get china for Easter, I will not get china for Easter…) But tea trios- you can have quite a number of patterns if all you have is one cup, one saucer and a bread and butter plate. As an added bonus, trios are a lot easier to find than a full set and a lot less expensive- usually. (Ok, there’s that Vogue set that’s $2000 and doesn’t even have a plate… maybe if I win the lottery and don’t spend it ALL on books…)

For reasons I am still uncertain about, my daughter has taken to naming the trios. Some of them are obvious- others not so much. And with very few exceptions, they are totally unrelated to the name of the pattern- it’s just what she calls them.
