Once again, Replacements has nothing on this one. It was produced in the 1930s by Burgess and Leigh in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent at the Middleport Pottery factory and has their beehive backstamp and Zenith which is the shape of the pieces- “BEAMS” is marked on the back of the plate. This is handpainted with a tree in front of a lake and the crescent moon with a few wisps of cloud in the sky above. It is banded in grey- there was also a green colourway (pattern #5046) for this pattern but I like the grey (pattern #5045) better. It has a lovely leaf detail on the bottom of the cup handle. This was not a very popular pattern in it’s day- possibly because it is a bit monotoned and could be a bit depressing if viewed in a certain way.
This is another one that had an obvious name- Emily calls it Annabelle Lee. I like it very much and would serve something a little delicate in it like Kuan Yin.
